Partner Cathy Arias Speaks on Cutting Edge Class Action & Employment Issues

Burnham Brown Partner, Cathy Arias, who chairs the firm's Labor and Employment practice, was interviewed by the Society For Human Resource Management (SHRM) and quoted in their March 2017 online magazine edition concerning class action wage and hour litigation and recommendations to assist employers in avoiding such claims.  In this particular article an employer faced a six-figure settlement after employees sued over unpaid wages and missed breaks.  "Failure to accurately record workers' hours and mandated breaks doomed any defense the company might have mounted, said Ms. Arias.  "If problems are uncovered, vowing compliance going forward is inadequate.  "It's really important to fix it going backwards."

Cathy Arias is a Partner with Burnham Brown and also Chair of the firm's Employment Practice Group.  She advises and represents employers on matters including harassment and discrimination claims, trade secrets and unfair competition, and wage-and-hour compliance.  She is an experienced trial attorney and has obtained multiple defense verdicts.
