Emergency Response and Investigation

Email Page Print Page

The Burnham Brown Transportation Group maintains a “24 Hour Emergency Response Team” with contact information available to our clients who need urgent investigation into accidents. The lawyers on this team are “on call” and ready at any time to visit an accident scene to lay the groundwork for a thorough investigation and vigorous defense of the claim.

Our services include an extensive network of engineers and accident reconstruction experts who specialize in scene and vehicle inspections as well as the retrieval and interpreting of electronic data from event recorders from passenger and commercial vehicles.

These experts and affiliations with multiple independent investigators throughout California and Nevada enable us to be first to the scene and preserve all potential evidence while maintaining the attorney work product and attorney client privileges for data and statements that are obtained. We are also up to speed on all pertinent criminal laws and procedures so that all employees or agents as well as commercially sensitive data of our clients can be protected in the often likely event that law enforcement entities are conducting an investigation parallel to ours.

In the case of accidents involving motor carriers subject to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, we are well versed in all potential violations and will focus our investigation on commonly seen claims including negligence, driver hours of service, safe speeds and vehicle maintenance and defect issues. We also maintain relationships with California Highway Patrol offices and their MAIT teams with whom we often need to interact to assure a fair result for our client and driver in those investigations.

We have provided recent emergency response investigation for national motor carriers, intermodal operators and transit companies that offer bus, commuter, shuttle, athletic team and paratransit services.
