Aimee Hamoy and John Verber of Burnham Brown successfully defended Lt. Michael Santos and Ofc. Frits Van der Hoek of the San Jose State University Police Department against claims of excessive force/civil rights violations under federal and state law. On March 11, 2016, Judge Koh of the Northern District granted summary judgment and dismissed the action. Plaintiff appealed. Today, the Ninth Circuit today affirmed the ruling, holding the officers were entitled to qualified immunity. Please see link for full decision.
